Great teams that fell by the wayside after achieving success

The world of sports is, to a certain extent, cruel. Everyone who competes in a discipline has a common goal: glory. However, there is one thing that is even more difficult than getting to the top, and that is staying there. Over the years we have seen teams in various sports that had a great moment and won multiple titles, but for various reasons were unable to reinvent themselves and ended up being surpassed by their rivals. Today we will remember some of them.

Many young people probably do not even know of the existence of this club, but we are talking about a historic team in European soccer. Led by coach Brian Clough, they experienced the most glorious period of their history in the second half of the 1970s: they won the English league in the 1977-78 season and won two consecutive European Cups (1979 and 1980). However, after Clough’s departure in 1993, the team went into a terrible decline, with institutional crises and multiple relegations. They currently play in the English second division and have not been promoted to the first division for more than 20 years.

Undoubtedly the best NBA team of the 1990s. The Bulls had some of the best players in the world on their roster, such as Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. In that decade they won six titles. However, since their last ring in 1998, they have not been able to reach glory again. They have not even been able to return to the Finals and have only reached the Eastern Conference Finals once (in 2011).

They are the third team with the most World Series appearances (14) and the third with the most titles (9, tied with Boston Red Sox). The decade of the 1970s was glorious for them, winning three consecutive World Series. At the end of the 80’s they had a resurgence, playing three consecutive World Series and winning one. However, since 1990 they have not reached a World Series.
