Top 5 Real Life Friendships in Sports

Respect and camaraderie are two of the great values of sport and, in many cases, athletes forge great friendships despite their rivalry. There is an old phrase that says “everything stays on the playing field” and many great athletes have applied it to perfection. Today we take a look at some examples.

ROGER FEDERER AND RAFAEL NADAL:

They are the two greatest tennis players of all time and passionate duels they have had on the courts have generated enormous admiration and mutual respect.

Off the court they are great friends, treating each other with exceptional chemistry and spontaneity. They are not shy to congratulate each other when either of them achieves a major success. They have also cooperated together in charitable causes, such as the Match for Africa, in which they have helped raise funds for the education of children in that continent.

LIONEL MESSI, NEYMAR JR. AND LUIS SUAREZ:

The three superstars were teammates for three years and in that time forged a close friendship. Their chemistry led to great achievements with FC Barcelona. Neymar left the club in 2017 and Suarez did so last September, but even that hasn’t cooled the friendship. When they have time they get together with their families and the three even have a WhatsApp group.

LEBRON JAMES AND DWAYNE WADE:

The two stars have known each other since 2003 and have been inseparable ever since. They were drafted and entered the NBA together. They were teammates on the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers and together they won two NBA rings. “Every time we meet in the locker room, we say to each other, ‘How did this happen, how did we get here,’ and we just start laughing,” Wade once said in an interview.

TOM BRADY AND WES WELKER:

Both players were teammates with the New England Patriots for five years. Being on the same team for so long helped them develop an endearing friendship. They maintain constant contact and Welker will surely be cheering on his friend at Super Bowl LV.

SERENA WILLIAMS AND CAROLINE WOZNIACKI:

Both tennis players have had a very close relationship for years. Off the court they have been seen many times going to the beach or attending NBA games. Williams was also Wozniacki’s maid of honor at her wedding.  Besides that, Serena’s daughter sees Carolina as her lovely and cool aunt.
